It could be due to a problem with your pancreas. That’s right, the dreaded pancreas. Often overlooked in hormone balancing, endocrine function, and weight loss, this tiny, seemingly insignificant organ is responsible for insulin production and fat storage. When the two are out of balance it is virtually impossible to maintain, and or achieve your desired weight.

The pancreas is the main organ that converts sugars into fat and stores the fat in your body. Every time we ingest that cookie, cake, white rice, or even an apple, all of which turns to sugar once we consume them, our blood sugar spikes and the pancreas releases the hormone insulin to lower the blood sugar.

When we eat simple and complex carbohydrates and our pancreas is is in hyperinsulinemic state, meaning working as it should, these carbs are not as harmful to us. But, that is not the case today. Our diets today include high-refined-carbohydrate foods, such as white bread and pasta, white rice, sugar, soda, alcohol, and processed foods that lead to a dysfunctional pancreas, a pancreas that produces too much insulin. When too much insulin is relased into our bloodstream, sugar is rapidly converted into fat and stored. Prolonged dysfunction leads to Syndrome X or Metabolic Syndrome. Syndrome X is strongly associated with Insulin resistance leading to Diabetes type II.

For someone with a dysfunctional pancreas, even a little bit of white bread and a few bananas each week will cause weight gain, excess fat storage, and sugar level fluctuation. So what can we do? How can we avoid developing Diabetes?

Avoiding anything white – white rice, white, bread, white pasta, white cereal, ect. It is esier for our bodies to break down and convert whole wheat, high fiber, and ezekiel grains and breads. Follow a diet without junk food, processed food, pesticides, sugars, refined flours, caffeine, and high-glycemic fruits and vegetables. Adding hormone-free proteins with every meal and eating healthy fats such as olive oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, unsalted organic butter, and goat cheese is essential.

Getting a fasting glucose level test and or kinesiology exam will give us an idea of your pancreas function to see if restoration is needed. Restoring health to the pancreas and adrenal glands will help “reset” the pancreas. This can be done through a comprehensive treatment program with herbal supplements and stress-lowering activities such as yoga and meditation in our office.
